- Simon Lemmen
Consultant Deutsche Post DHL Inhouse Consulting
From 2007 to 2010 I studied at the University of Mannheim (Mannheim, Germany) and graduated as a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and General Management. I spent one semester abroad at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai, People’s Republic of China). Inspired by various internships at consultancies, DHL Supply Chain Business Development and Deutsche Post DHL Inhouse Consulting (DPDHL IC) I decided to start my career at DPDHL IC as an Associate Consultant. Within 13 months I got promoted to Consultant.
Inhouse Consulting is the international strategy and management consultancy of DPDHL. We support the top management of DPDHL globally and develop high potentials for the future management positions at DPDHL. Moreover, we have established our Strategic Logistics Consulting team supporting external customers of DPDHL in optimizing their strategic supply chains.
Why did I join DPDHL IC? DPDHL IC provided the opportunity to start a professional career in a renowned consultancy and international environment with a Bachelor degree. I got the chance to get to learn DPDHL IC in-depth during my internship and was convinced by the culture, the team and the topics.
And what do I value today? Firstly, it is about the people. My colleagues are smart and young people with a multicultural background who are all passionate about their work. Thereby, the personal development of each individual is of key importance. We can select from a broad range of trainings which help to sharpen our professional skills and personality.
Secondly, it is about the dynamic international environment we are working in. Logistics is an ever-changing industry covering various industries and product streams across the globe.
Thirdly, it is about the broad range of exciting projects: My project portfolio ranges from product developments over process optimizations to strategic business transformations in various divisions of DPDHL such as sales, marketing, procurement and IT.
Fourthly, it is about the chance to take early responsibility. Within our team of about 130 consultants every single employee counts and can contribute to the success of IC working closely together with our top management. Moreover, although being attached to a company of about 500.000 employees you can still live the entrepreneurial spirit. For example, I could not only support my project team but also take part in a university collaboration identifying new business opportunities for one of our divisions in Africa.
During the last two years I have grown professionally and personally – be it tools and methodologies, the management of stakeholders or the reflection of my personal values. This has been supported by a culture of passion, open-mindedness and respect.
Now I am looking forward to taking the next hurdle to become senior consultant within the next two years. In the meantime I might pursue a MBA or master degree – financially supported by DPDHL IC.
If you choose to work for DPDHL IC, you will definitely take an exciting and challenging career path in an international, dynamic and inspiring work environment with a great team.
